Strengthening linkages between employment, training and education holds key to the success of Skill India mission

A synergy between employment, training and education departments is of importance to achieve the goal of Skill India and reduce the unemployment ratio.

Speaking at an Awareness Programme on Model Counselling Centre and Mega Job Fair, D. K. Parekh, Director, Employment and Training, Government of Gujarat said that his department was creating a new platform for international jobs with the objective of providing employment opportunities abroad to aspiring Indian youth.

He was addressing principals, placement officers and participants at the meet.

According to Vikrant Pande, Provost, TeamLease Skills University, Vadodara, his university had adopted an approach whereby it reaches out to the stakeholders rather than waiting for the employers to come to the academia. TeamLease Skills University, he said, was the first specialised skills university in India and the emphasis on reaching out to the employers was paying rich dividends as it was helping them design a curriculum as per industry needs and was also able to provide employment to the passing out candidates.

Skills are of value obtained through vocational education.

Samir J. Shah, Chief Mentor and Director, JBS Academy Pvt. Ltd. in his address mentioned that the time was right for institutes to reach out to industry and the employer at large to understand the industry needs and accordingly guide students to take forward their career.

Sharing experiences in logistics, he said that port, shipping and export-import related operations had tremendous employment opportunities. India needed more than 2 crore trained manpower for this industry itself.
